Technicolor / Thomson TG580

details: Wireless ADSL2+ Gateway
hardware type: DSL Wireless Router
date added: 2010-01-20
updated: 2015-06-25
The TG580 is a wireless ADSL2+ router with a single RJ-11 WAN port and four 10/100Base-T LAN ports. It provides WAN throughput of up to 24Mbps.

The integrated access point complies with IEEE 802.11b/g standards. It supports WEP and WPA/WPA2 wireless encryption and uses Wi-Fi Multimedia Power Save (WMM-PS, a.k.a., Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (u-APSD)) to save up to 40% of the battery life of WMM-PS devices connected to the AP. A WPS button allows for worry-free wireless security configuration.

This router features a built-in SPI firewall to protect the network from hackers and malicious attacks.

Pleasantly surprised. I've joined Tesco broadband and was horrified to be told I was getting this router (after reading the other reviews) but its been fine. The wifi signal to my smartphone, kindle and laptop are all excellent - BUT - I live in a small one bedroom flat. Maybe the problems arise in larger properties when there's more distance to travel. My Asus N11 is only slightly better but again, I only have a small property. On my experience I'm satisfied.

I wrote a relatively positive review about this modem router in august but would like to downgrade from four stars to two stars. The modem as others have suggested like to drop the connection with some devices in my flat. Others it does not but my samsung s2 doesn't like it and unless your in the same room it will periodically drop the connection the moment you leave it.
I've now installed the ASUS dsl -n11 with no problems whatsover.

Ever since Tesco supplied this router it has dropped the connection on average 2 or 3 times per hour.
