Verizon will begin testing sponsored data soon2015-12-11 03:11 by DanielaTags: Verizon
Verzion is expected to soon start testing sponsored data. This means that customers will be able to view certain content without it counting against their monthly data allowance, since the content would be sponsored by a third party. A possible sponsored content may be a video ad for example. The carrier will stream those videos without it eating user's data, effectively allowing an advertising company to sponsor the data for its video. "The capabilities we've built allow us to break down any byte that is carried across our network and have all or a portion of that sponsored," said Marni Walden, executive VP for Verizon. Walden also said, that Verizon will roll out the program "in a larger commercial way" during the first quarter of 2016. Sponsored data, which is the equivalent of toll-free calls for Internet access, is already implemented by AT&T. T-Mobile also offers both video streaming (Binge On) and audio streaming (Music Freedom) from certain content partners without data charges, although those services aren't sponsored. Read more -here-
