Verizon is also experimenting with a game streaming service2019-01-14 17:11 by DanielaTags: Verizon
Yet another company plans to launch a game streaming service. Verizon is reportedly working on and is already alpha testing a cloud gaming service a la PlayStation Now called Verizon Gaming. Although Verizon has not advertised, or even acknowledged, the service's existence, it's quietly recruiting people to test it and the 135 games it offers. Participants are reportedly given a free Nvidia Shield, Xbox One controller, and login for the test and are rewarded with a $150 Amazon gift card afterwards. Right now, the trial is primarily focused on performance, Verizon recently wrote to participants in an email obtained by The Verge. Cloud gaming services like Verizon Gaming use remote servers to stream top-quality video games directly to the player. In the simplest terms, the server runs the game and sends the player a video feed from the cloud, while the player's controller inputs are sent back to the server. This allows the user to play the game remotely on their choice of computer or mobile device. With the server doing the heavy lifting, players no longer need expensive video-game consoles to run the latest games. This has sparked the interest of major tech companies looking to get involved in the video-game industry without investing in expensive consoles and other hardware. Read more -here-
