Sony Pictures has been hacked by a group calling itself #GOP. Employees of the studio weren't able to log on to their work computers Monday. Instead they were welcomed by a warning. A red skull appeared on their screens under "Hacked By #GOP," which stands for "Guardians оf Peace," and a list of threats.

"We've already warned you, and this is just a beginning," the message read. "We've obtained all your internal data including your secrets. We continue till our request be met... If you don't obey us, we'll release data shown below to the world."

The company has reportedly shut down all of its computers in Los Angeles as a precaution and urged its employees to not connect to any company networks or access their work mail accounts, while the company is investigating the matter.

"Sony deserves praise for going offline while they figure out what is happening rather than allow further damage," Internet security expert Hemanshu Nigam says. Reportedly, the hack did not affect other divisions of Sony Corp.
