In the early Tuesday morning, Facebook and its photo-sharing service - Instagram suffered a worldwide outage. Users in the United States and several countries in Asia and Europe were unable to log on to the websites of the services and their corresponding mobile apps. The disruption continued for about 40 minutes and Facebook users were greeted with the message: "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can." Contrary to the speculations that the outage was caused by a hacking attack, the company explained that the problem was due to an internal fault and not an outside attack. "This was not the result of a third party attack but instead occurred after we introduced a change that affected our configuration systems," Facebook said. "Both services are back to 100 percent for everyone." With 864 million daily active users, Facebook is currently the most popular social network. It also has about 1.35 billion monthly active subscribers. The number of Instagram's monthly active users is more than 150 million. Read the full Reuters story -here-
