Amazon on Monday sent out invites for a virtual event that will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 9 am PT/12 pm ET. The invite doesn't include much information outside of asking members of the press to join the company for an invite-only streamed event where attendees will learn more about Amazon devices, features and services.

The annual event is Amazon's chance to show off its latest Echo devices ahead of the holiday season and is typically the place we hear about upgrades coming to Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Luna and Amazon Music.

Just as much a showcase for hardware, though, Amazon's events have become demonstrations for its software changes. Alexa typically plays a key part in that - last year we saw group calling support, Netflix on Echo Show, and interactive teaching tools - but it's also an opportunity to see what developer tools and improvements have been introduced.

Another thing we could get next week: a release date for the Ring Always Home Cam. Amazon introduced the $250 indoor drone - a flying security camera that docks when it isn't in use - during its event last year but didn't give a specific release date.

Earlier this month, Amazon announced that it was making its own TVs and was expanding its range of partners, so we'll likely hear additional details about those at the event as well.
