What is mobile WiMAX ?

Mobile WiMAX is the IEEE's 802.16e standard, approved in late 2005. It extends the 802.16d fixed WiMAX standard, adding features to support wireless connectivity with moving clients.

WiMAX operates in the licensed 2.5GHz frequency band. Bidirectional speeds of mobile WiMAX are 2-4 Mbps over a range of 3 to 4 miles (as compared to 15-30% higher througput and 10 to 15 miles range for fixed WiMAX with good line of sight to the base station).

Mobile WiMAX is being phased out in favor of LTE in the US.
